Sayaka Yoda (与田紗弥加, Yoda Sayaka^?) is both a friend of Akari Iguchi, and her most zealous advocate for her crush on Tomoki Kuroki, to his near-violent irritation.

Overview

Sayaka appears first in Chapter 25 alongside Akari when they visit the Kuroki Residence to give the sick Tomoko Kuroki printouts from school. She is aware of her friend's crush on Tomoki. When Tomoko Kuroki insults Akari as being interested in seeing her brother's "dick," Sayaka infamously stands up for her friend while demanding to know why Tomoko thinks girlfriends and boyfriends being curious is "strange." She acts primarily as an enthusiastic, but inept, matchmaker for Akari and Tomoki.

Personality

Sayaka seems very bold and uninhibited, and she initially may appear more mature about matters that teenagers tend to obsess over. Thus in Chapter 95 when Tomoko torments her friend Akari over her belief that Akari asked to see Tomoki's genitals, Sayaka frankly responds, "Even girls are interested in those kinds of things, it's not weird at all!" However, Chapter 169 reveals that she lacks practical experience when she tries to measure Tomoki's interest in girls based on whether or not his pants reveals evidence of an erection.

Appearance

Sayaka initially has loose, black shoulder-length hair. By her second year in high school, her hair extends below her shoulders.

Relationships

Akari Iguchi

Akari and Sayaka have been close friends since middle school. Sayaka is often seen with Akari, usually encouraging Akari to interact with Tomoki. She famously confronts Tomoko over her insults towards Akari regarding her desire to view her brother's Unmentionables. She cheers on Akari's pursuit of Tomoki to the extreme point of loudly announcing in their classroom that Tomoki groped an upperclasswoman.

Chapter 156 reveals that she has formed a relationship with the until-then unnamed friend of Tomoki, Nakamura. Their relationship appears one of needling and arguing. When Akari remarks on her friendship with Nakamura, Akari does the Grand Tradition of Tsundere proud by denying liking him while listing all of the negative aspects of Nakamura. Akari slyly teases her by suggesting that she can then fall in love with Nakamura; Akari reacts by exploding that Nakamura is wrong for Akari, and over Akari's attempt to confess she was joking, she continues that Nakamura's Unmentionable is "too small" for Akari, and she would prefer Tomoki's which, she assumes, must be "massive!" Akari takes this in stride, and WataMote Wiki can neither confirm nor deny that Sayaka has such information.

Since then and into the Cultural Festival Arc, Sayaka remains Akari's biggest supporter cum matchmaker. She "volunteers" both her and Tomoki as the romantic leads in their class' play. Akari becomes progressively upset with Sayaka's efforts. As noted below in Tomoki's section, Sayaka pushes for the two to have a romantic moment in the play to the point of announcing it at the assembly devoted to classes revealing their projects. Due to Tomoki kicking her in the shin and stepping on her foot as revenge during their performance, she falls on him completing their respective "First Kiss." While Akari is mortified, much of it is projection of her own frustration with her own inability to confess to Tomoki. For her part, Sayaka is tearfully apologetic. However, she does return the tease Akari made over sixty chapters prior that if Akari does not act, she just might "take" Tomoki. WataMote Wiki would add a "stay turned," but the New Year's Special published prior to but taking place after the Cultural Festival reveals that Sayaka can still call her to make plans for New Year's.

Tomoko Kuroki

Sayaka first really meets Tomoko in Chapter 95 having only seen her from a distance during the sports festival. Realizing she is Tomoki's older sister, she insists on meeting her despite Akari's objections. Tomoko naturally directly asks Akari, "are you here to ask me about dicks again?" To Akari's horror and Tomoko's surprise, Sayaka asks Tomoko, "What's wrong with wanting to see the genitalia of the person you like?" As a result, Tomoko considers her one of the "Dick Sisters (ちんちん妹・chinchin imōto/shisotā)."

Tomoki Kuroki

The two do not have much of a direct relationship. Aware of and supportive of her friend's crush, she accompanies her to his home to deliver his assignments as depicted in the anime adaption of the relevant chapter. She will try to kindle interest by basically arranging a study session at his home with Akari and Nakamura which fails miserably, and she begins to wonder if Tomoki has a soccer fetish. She directly intervenes during the planning for her class' project for the Festival by volunteering Tomoki and Akari to play the respective romantic leads in their play. This leads to the natural embarrassment of Akari.

Tomoki, however, merely stares at Sayaka, smiles severely, and insists that it is "fine."

Undaunted, Sayaka takes the opportunity when announcing her class's play to the school in the auditorium to claim that there will be a "love scene" between Tomoki and Akari. She convinces the affectionately-named-by-WataMote Wiki Director Glasses-Chan to change the ending where "Prince Tomoki" must revive the poisoned Disney Princess Akari[-chan – Ed.] with a kiss. During the first performance, as the Evil Step-Sister™, Sayaka decides to push Tomoki onto the supine Akari so he cannot just fake kissing her; however, he rises to deliver a "finishing blow" to her, she trips due to injuries she suffered from Prince Tomoki grinding his foot on to hers and kicking her shin during the performance, and she ends up on top of him with her lips locked on his, looking shocked and blushing deeply. Initially, her reaction was unknown. For his part, Tomoki has an internal struggle over which is worse: kissing her or kissing his sister when he was a child. He ultimately decides she was the better, or at least the least objectionable. The subsequent chapter reveals that she was seriously, and tearfully, embarrassed and apologetic to Akari. She reveals that this was, indeed, her first time kissing a boy, which suggests that any relationship with Nakamura never went beyond entering the batter's box. While this does not trigger any immediate crush on Sayaka's part, when she recovers herself, she does return the tease she received from Akari that she might just "take" Tomoki if she does not act. Then Kiko suggests to her that Tomoki might choose her . . . stay tuned!

Nakamura

A previously unnamed and background character who teased Akari about her cookies in Chapter 41. Chapter 156 reveals that the two have taken an interest in one another where both bicker and tease one another in all of the greatest traditions of tsundere. However, Chapter 168 reveals that she has a crush on him when she starts to cry when he cancels a study date with her, Tomoki, and Akari due to rain.

Kiko Satozaki

The two first meet during the first day of the Cultural Festival intended for students. Kiko sneaks in, witnesses Sayaka, Akari, and Tomoki's play, then later sees her prancing out of her classroom to attend to her makeup. Kiko visualizes her as a dog, and she compliments her performance while imaging waving a breaded chicken leg in front of an excited dog. She then implies to Sayaka that Tomoki just might choose her. She leaves Sayaka imaging her younger self giving the leg to the dog. Stay tuned!
