Synopsis

This chapter is a two-parter divided into titled sections based the most popular pairings from the 10th Anniversary Survey.

Sachi and Koharu (サチとこはる)

The cover consists of Sachi with her head resting on her arms on her desk. Behind her, an anonymous girl chats to an anonymous boy. As the girl asks, "did you go after all? How was it?" the other responds that it was seriously difficult. Sachi raises her head a bit and inwardly grouses, "annoying." The panel pulls back to reveal it is Nori chatting. She continues that that is why she said what she said. Sachi's inward complaining become louder as she gripes, "Deliberately near me . . . a really awful woman." She raises her head a bit more as she wonders what it would be if Koharu were in the classroom as a girl's hand moves the seat in front of her desk.

She is Koharu, and she pleasantly teases, "Pretending to sleep or anti-social." Barely raising her head, Sachi greats, "Koharu-chan." She then raises and with her eyes still narrowed, she asks Koharu, "why did you come here?" Koharu happily replies that because her class has a free period she came here.

The scene shifts to the rest of the class. Nori looks back at them as the boy continues chatting with her. Further away, Kayo looks back and says, "Minami-chan?" and Miyazaki replies, "Really." Meanwhile, off-panel Sachi states that since she does not want to talk here they should go to the hallway. Koharu insists that "here is fine!" Sachi replies that she is saying this for Koharu since being in a different class will make her uncomfortable. With a smile, Koharu dismisses her concern; in the past, she would think that way, but she does not now.

With her eyes still narrowed, Sachi acknowledges Korahu's reply while inwardly thinking, "Annoying . . . how confident are you? Koharu-chan is really small minded?" She imagines her faceless self talking with Nori and Maki, sarcastically claiming that "Koharu-chan" is doing well. Nori responds, "she's in good condition?" Inwardly, as stares at the Noble Readership in a way that frequently reminds WataMote Wiki about a discussion on sharks, she reminisces that she liked to bad mouth "Koharu-chan," but she cannot "use those guys."

Back to the present, now with her head fully raised and eyes as open as Sachi's eyes can be, she asks Koharu about her real class and friends: "Did you come to see me because you're lonely?" Still smiling, Koharu admits that Mako and Shiki are not there so she was lonely.

With a grin that further reminds WataMote Wiki about an alcohol-enhanced discourse on the fate of the U.S.S. Indianapolis, Sachi continues, "so . . ." but inwardly rages, "I was sarcastic what are you doing?" She inwardly rages that she is becoming worked up and acting like a "fucking brat (クソガキ・kuso gaki)" while Koharu is acting like an adult.

Meanwhile, expressing a Flower of Happiness, Koharu eagerly turns to her bag of snacks on her desk and opens it. Behind her, Sachi stares at her and thinks that, awhile ago, Koharu said they were on equal footing, but, at this rate, she is higher.

With a beaming smile, Koharu holds one of the snacks in her right hand and offers one towards Sachi with her left as she exclaims, "Yes! Give to Sachi!" With her stare and a small smile, Sachi replies that she does not need to get fat. She then acidly adds that since it is a seat for someone, she should not drop the crumbs of sweets. Sweating and embarrassed, Minami quickly brushes them off the desk as she replies, "Oh yeah that's right!" As she does that, Faceless Sachi inwardly demands that Koharu return the insult to her or she will seem like the bad person. However surrounded by some animesque bubbles, Koharu continues as she munches on her snack that her class are doing a movie for the festival, and Tomoko and Nemoto are in charge. She rhetorically asks Sachi if she remembers them from her class.

The next panel focuses on Emiri approaching Kayo and Miyazaki and saying "Kuroki?" Over them, a Chibi Koharu mockingly repeats that they declared that they were going to make preparations so everyone should please stay behind. Koharu has no interest in this. Smiling brightly and cutely, with a few animesque stars, Koharu reminds her that since her class is pretty much finished, Sachi has nothing to do so they can go home together. She then suggests that they both skip the day of the festival altogether since neither of them have anything to do. Thinking, Sachi notes that Koharu speaks without thinking, but if she agrees, since others will hear them, it will be obvious that they are skipping when they are not there on the day.

Smiling to herself a bit as she looks down without her eyes, she inwardly concedes that it is probably fine since it is "Koharu-chan." With her face, surrounded by animesque . . . smoke? . . . Sachi agrees then tells her to take her somewhere. Koharu eagerly suggests the arcade since it is, "surprisingly fun." Sachi inwardly confesses that she always loved how she says whatever is on her mind even if it pisses her off. As Sachi continues, Koharu finishes her snack and munched whilst looking at Sachi with concern. Sachi confesses to herself that she just wanted to be a bit more like her.

She finally speaks that just when she was thinking about Koharu being in the classroom, Koharu appeared right in front of her. With a smile, Sachi thanks her for coming to see her. Sweating, Koharu takes another snack but asks Sachi what is wrong since her appearance is "creepy." Sachi lowers her eyebrows and declares, "Die pig!" to Chibi Koharu's shock.

Tamura and Nemoto (田村と根元)

This part opens with a view of Kaihimmakuhari Station. The next panels depict casually dressed Hina and Yuri meeting. Holding her phone, Hina chirps that Tomoko has told her that she will be an hour late. Unfazed, Yuri replies that she already knows since she received a text on the train saying, "I just woke up."

The scene shifts to inside with tables surrounded by plants. Yuri has already opened her note books as Hina returns to lay a steaming mug before her. She remarks in surprise that Yuri has already started, then she adds that she could start when Tomoko arrives. Without looking up at her, Yuri retorts that she is not like her; she does not have spare time.

Hina sits with her eyes open watching Yuri as she works. The next panel depicts their conversation over the leaves of some of the plants. Hina asks "Tamura-san" if she has a dream. Yuri curtly denies that she does then asks if she must have one like "Nemoto-san." Hina corrects her that she just wondered if there was something Yuri wanted to do at college given that she studies so hard for it.

Still concentrating on her work, Yuri asks her why she wishes to become a voice actress since it does not pay well. Hina admits that some say that, but she brightly continues to ask if it would not be weirder to want to become one because you want to be rich or have a stable income. She then confesses that she would not mind either. Yuri looks up from her work as Hina continues. "Dreams either come true or they dont," she explains, "but this is something that I want to do."

The scene focuses on Yuri's steaming mug. She replies with a long "Hmmm (ふーん・fūn)" and "so. . . ." Hina emits a "yup (うん・un)." The next panel focuses on Yuri's lower face and chest as she pauses her writing and confesses that, recently, she has come to think. Chibi Hina reacts with shock. With the next panel depicting her profile, Yuri explains that the reason she is studying now is to aim for the same goal with everyone.

The next panel depicts a series of parallel roads which branch off and cross. Upon one is a sign post that reads "Future Career." Yuri continues over this that, from this point onward, they will graduate, find jobs, and some of them may even get married. "We might not be able to see each other all that much." Yuri explains that if they all aim for the same path, they can all move forward while doing everything they can to avoid drifting apart. Normal Hina looks at her with surprise as she concludes that while she does not have dreams, it would be nice if something like that happened.

The panel focuses on Yuri's eyes as she continues that they can live like the failed stand-up comedians seen on television. "Even in our thirties," she insists that they can play at the amusement park together and have fun living in the same house. The scene shifts to her imagination of a main living room. She sits on the couch in the foreground with Tomoko before the television. She asks Tomoko if the show will be long, and Tomoko replies that it will be up to season ten. Behind them, Emiri, dressed in a blazer and with longer hair, asks them about their part-time jobs. Without looking back at her, Tomoko replies that they have night shifts today. Immediately behind Yuri, Mako stands wearing an apron and kitchen mitts as she holds a steaming pot. She is turned to her right to traditionally greet Masaki and Asuka who have just returned. Dressed elegantly, Asuka gives the traditional reply, while Masaki, dressed in a workwoman's clothes and carrying a duffle bag, explains that they met one another as they were returning.

Back in the present, Hina excitedly declares that Yuri does have a dream; Yuri asks her if that is a dream. The scene focuses on Hina as she explains that Yuri's wanting to stay together even after graduation is a dream, and it is an achievable one. She insists that if Yuri talks about it to Tomoko and the others, some will agree. She then adds that she had been thinking of the same thing and exclaims, "let's do it together."

Yuri calmly replies that she "forgot" to include Nemoto-san in her imagination. Angry Sweating Chibi Hina demands that Yuri include her. Yuri calmly relents, but the next panel depicts her listing her conditions: they will have to live together for five years without any backing out midway; romance is forbidden since it promotes marriage; Hina should make as few new friends as possible; and even if she does not become a voice actress, Hina will not be allowed to return home to her parents. "Keep aiming for your goal."

"Harsh rules!" Hina exclaims in response.

Referbacks and Forwards

• Emiri X Koharu: no, WataMote Wiki will not search for that dōjin; rather, Koharu, in Chapter 156, tried to gain favor with Emiri by showing her the picture of Tomoko in Asuka's make-up, from Chapter 135, on her phone to her. After accepting it, then intently staring at it, Emiri tells Koharu to never show her "filthy face" in her classroom again. The two somewhat reconcile, if that term can be used with either, in Chapter 191.
• "It'll be obvious that we're skipping if we're not there on the day": Except for setting up some chairs, Tomoko practically skipped all participation for the school festival without being noticed by her classmates.
• "What about the Arcade? It's surprisingly fun": The first time Minami was seen going to Arcade was in Chapter 187.

Cultural References

• "Voice Actresses and Idols, Oh My!": Yuri's conditions match the conditions often placed on seiyū and idols, particularly the proscription against dating. At least she did not insist you voice hentai, Hina-chan. . . .

• Living Together: WataMote Wiki will research some Japanese shows to see if the "a bunch of young people sharing the same space and hilarity follows" shows are a thing.
• "Yeah, isn't she getting full of herself": In Sachi's fantasy, she pictures Nori commenting with the same kind of perception Koharu had about Tomoko.
• The 'Spark' shirt: In Yuri's fantasy about her living together her friends and Emiri, she imagines Tomoko wearing the shirt with the 'Spark' written in it, which is the same as the one Tomoko wore in the Chapter 1.

Memorable Moments

• Catfight: Sachi inwardly implies that Nori intentionally talks near her.
• Arcade: Koharu admits to liking the arcade.
• Yuri X Hina: all humor and "that dōjin" references aside, Hina does seem sincere in her questions to Yuri, while Yuri seems, in her own grudging manner, to finally accept Hina.
• "Fear of Flying": Yuri appears to share the concerns and fears of adulthood of other WataGirls.
• "Hail! Hail! The Gang's All Here!": while Yuri does not include Hina in her "delusion," she does include Asuka as well as, interestingly, Emiri.
• "I just want things keep going like they are right now": Along the series, many of the WataGirls have reveal a desire to maintain the comfort zone of their current school days. Hina did it indirectly in Chapter 200-1 by expressing to Tomoko how she hated that things seem to head towards the end while time does not seem to pass in a slice-of-life moe anime. Masaki shared the same thought with Megumi in Chapter 182, with the latter recognizing the yearning for things to continue like that. Yuri now confesses her desire to aim for the same path and cohabite together.
