私がモテないのはどう考えてもお前らが悪い!

Watashi ga Motenai no wa dō Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!

No Matter How I Look at It, It’s You Guys' Fault I’m Not Popular!

Synopsis[]

On the cover, two anonymous boys push the tea coffee cup ride. In one, three Happy Anonymous-Chans giggle[1] as one films on a phone. In another Anonymous Blond Boy rides with Anonymous Blond Girl. In the last, two Anonymous Blond Boys[2] ride. The next panel reveals Nagi with Kaede. Both have large bows in their hair, and the front of Nagi's t-shirt reads, "HSJ Staff." Kaede exclaims that it is a great success. Nagi credits everyone in their class as well as the advertisement. A shadow appears at the doorway, and Nagi cheerfully invites the next two people to come inside. WataMote Wiki cannot possibly describe the final panel: Tomoki stands with his face pale but his eyes opaque in darkness[3]; Faceless Sachi smiles; and the title is actually in English with phonetic furigana over it. Sachi pleasantly asks, "Since I brought a guest, is it okay to ride together?"

As Nagi directs Japan's New Happy Couple,[4] behind them, Miyazaki and Kayo[5] observe them. Miyazaki confesses that she thinks she has seen "that boy" somewhere. Kayo agrees that she also thinks that way and wonders who he is. Behind them, Emiri responds, "Kuroki. . . ."[6] Satisfied, Kayo smiles as she concludes, "That's right! He's Kuroki-san's little brother." Next to her, Emiri stares ahead thinking. Next to her, Miyazaki observes that he is an acquaintance of "Mima-san." Taking hold of Miyazaki's forearm, Nagi eagerly adds, "Kuroki-san's younger brother and Mima-san's combination is really interesting, what kind of connection is there?!"

Emiri Regards Tomoki c218

Shown: Chibi Emiri regards Tomoki's GHOST Face

Meanwhile, Chibi Emiri regards Tomoki's face and thinks, "Those eyes of Kuroki's younger brother . . . just like Kuroki has dead eyes, . . ."[7] Taking on her River in Egypt Face, Emiri angrily thinks that she did not believe Kuroki's younger brother was a man without a shred of disgustingness: "It's like for 'ten years' he's been living like Kuroki. . . . with a creepy, dark look in his eyes, as if he's changed in such a short period of time."

Meanwhile, Faceless Sachi smiles with satisfaction as she walks next to Tomoki. "They're making noise. They're making noise," she muses. She looks over her left shoulder, still with a satisfied smile, as she continues that she wanted to show "these bitches" more than others. The next panel reveals Maki and Nori chatting together right behind her. Maki rhetorically and "pleasantly" asks Nori, "Dating someone younger than you isn't creepy?[8] 'cause your classmates won't associate with you, you act younger?" Smiling, Nori emits the Japanese Sign of Agreement: ねー (), With both of them in her mind, Sachi admits that they do not envy her for dating a younger guy, but their feeling that they are above her in honor and status, "pisses me off."

As she waits, next to Tomoki, faceless and with a diminished smile and her arms folded, Maki and Nori continue their taunts. "But doesn't her boyfriend look bored?"[9] Nori asks. Maki squeals, "As I thought! Isn't she forcing him to date her?" "How sad," Maki continues, "boyfriend, run away!" and emits a giggle.[10] Sachi can only react with silence. This is interrupted by Nagi and Kaede walking past them. Kaede invites the "Sacchan party"[11] to follow. Faceless Sachi reacts with a pleasant smile, but Tomoki maintains his GHOST Face.™

Not Having Fun Sachi c218

The two sit in a cup, and the next panels reveal that Tomoki does not change from his GHO his expression. Sachi remains faceless but with a small smile. She finally acquires her face,[12] and acidly asks him, "No, how long you're going to sulk?"[13] When he replies that he is not, she retorts, "Always, your face is something like a statue!" She continues, "You've kissed many times, haven't you? There's nothing wrong with that."[14] Off-panel, Tomoki insists that he has not and wonders what he should look like. As he continues with his GHOST Face, she continues that "Tamura" and "Yoshida" came to his home and stayed the night, yet nothing more happened? Inwardly, she confesses that if that is the case, then that is fine. With the next panel focusing on her face, she continues that she does not think that was his "first kiss."[15]

The next page justifies Galleries. Tomoki's face turns to shock as he imagines the smiling Sayaka in her costumes. His eyes shift to look at his sister approaching from behind. He continues to stare shocked as he thinks of them on either side of him. Finally, as Tomoko become her child self, a sort of explosion appears on Sayaka's face with the caption ”Still better."[16] Back at the ride, Tomoki retains his shocked face as he confesses, that if he remembers into the past, there have been a few. Face Sachi replies, "I see . . . well . . . that's standard, right. . . . "

Meanwhile, Nori and Maki watch them and gossip. Nori gleefully asks if it does not look like they are not dating. Maki agrees that they just seem like acquaintances, and she just brought him there to show off. Sachi exits first. Without her face, she asks him how long until his next performance, then adds, "There is another performance?" With her face, she suddenly looks surprised. The next panel shows her legs surrounded by animesque light stagger. To Tomoki's surprise, she grabs on to him. She apologizes that she is a little dizzy. Tomoki actually asks if she is okay. Meanwhile, Kayo and Miyazaki watch smiling, with Miyazaki emiting a "Kya-."[17]

"Is she desperate?" Maki asks, "It's definitely intentional." Nori agrees, "I mean, isn't it creepy (キモくない) to bring a junior (後輩・kōhai) to your own class and flirt with him?” Faceless and her mouth showing concern, Sachi continues to hold onto Tomoki's left shoulder with her right hand with her left touching his chest. She reacts to Nori and Maki's taunts by thinking, "It's annoying, but if I saw myself now, I'd have the same reaction, it just looks contrived." For his part, Tomoki appears to react to something in front of him. He pushes Sachi aside, to her faceless surprise, and the next panel reveals Tomoko and Asuka have arrived.

Tomoko looks at her brother with embarrassed surprise while Asuka clasps her hands and says in his direction since the ride is behind him, "Awesome! It's spinning!" Nagi happily welcomes "Katō-san and Kuroki-san."[18]

The pairs of Tomoko and Asuka and Tomoki and Sachi walk wordlessly past one another. Asuka looks back at Tomoko and seems to notice her silent ruminations. Similarly, Faceless Sachi wordlessly regards Tomoki's. Asuaka pleasantly notes, "Tomo-chan's little brother came just now."[19] Looking up with particularly enhanced eye bags, Tomoko can only emit the affirmative "うん." Inwardly, she marvels, "He's already walking with another woman right after he's done it, this an old erotic game protagonist. . . . It's too much simultaneous attacks. . . ."

Tomoki and Sachi walk together down one of the school's decorated corridors. Neither have their faces. They pass various anonymous students in costume or t-shirts advertising their classes. Sachi stops and, after a brief pause calls out to Tomoki.[20] Surprised, he looks back at her. With the next panel focusing on her actual face, she suggests that, perhaps, Tomoki meant he kissed Tomoko some time ago.[21] Tomoki reacts with his "I'm in PAIN!" Face.

With her face, Sachi stares into his. She inwardly concludes, "I knew it . . . he reacts differently than with the other women." The final panel focuses sufficiently on her face to reveal that she does, indeed, have irides.

"But what kind of emotion does this expression convey?!"

Referbacks[]

  • "ENGLISH Motherfucker! Do . . . You . . . SPEAK . . . it?!!": first chapter to have an actual English title. What?
  • "Want to Ride [With – Ed.] Me?": Sachi invited Tomoki to ride [with – Ed.] her in the Coffee Cup Ride in Chapter 213-1. Tomoki replied in Chapter 213-2 that he would if he had time.
  • "Really Interesting Pair": In Chapter 152, Nagi used the same phrase for Emiri and Tomoko.
  • Mima Sachi . . . Girl Detective!: not coming to a manga or anime soon. Apparently, despite Emiri's insistence, given other WataGirls'™ reactions, Tomoko and Tomoki do not look that similar. Still, they both have the same name, and unless Sachi is completely ignorant of Tomoko's first name, WataMote Wiki has to agree with various Fan Complaints that she should at least consider they could be related.
  • "How Do They Know Each Other?": Not that Nagi had known about their "relationship" before, but Sachi and Tomoki met in Chapter 192-2 when both went to the same place to eat alone without being seen.
  • Perchance in that FAILure There be Grossness?": In Chapter 163, Kayo asked Emiri if she was interested in Tomoki, since he was a guy, after which, she looked closely on him, but replied to Kayo that he was just a failure of gross loser. Emiri retains this assessment in Chapter 210-1, when she went to class 2-4 to watch Tomoki rehearsing for the play. Finally, at the spa in Chapter 214-3, Emiri talks directly with Tomoki and notes that while he is so similar to his sister on surface, he lacks "Kurokiness."
  • "Tomoki, You Would Not be So All Alone! Everyone Must Get Stoned!": WataMote Wiki needs a moment to overcome the effects of imaging that Sachi is a Bob Dylan fan. In the previous chapter, when Tomoki tried to punch Sayaka in her face to stop her, she tripped due to the previous injuries Tomoki caused her, which resulted in her landing on him and kissing him. Sachi calls him out for his sulking.
  • "The hypocritical who hangs out a younger boy": In Chapter 194, Sachi badmouthed about Masaki because she was with Tomoki in the courtyard, since he was younger than her. This time, Nori and Maki badmouth Sachi for doing the same thing during school festival, with the same boy.
  • "Is the image of playboy fading away?": On Chapter 192-2, after Tomoki answered Sachi to have had 3rd year girls in his house, she assumed Tomoki was a playboy.
  • "When Tamura or Yoshida stayed over at your house": Masaki went for first time to Kuroki's house on Chapter 155 to take Tomoko home, and entered there on Chapter 168 to have shelter from pouring rain. Yuri went and slept over at Kuroki's house on 183 and 183.5.
  • "Still better": Mrs. Kuroki found on Volume 1 Omake, a video of both Tomoko and Tomoki when they were little, and in this, it can be seen how Tomoki affectionately told Tomoko how he loved her, how he wanted to marry her when he growed up, and at last, it's hinted how he kissed her, whether or not he did on lips, it's unknown.

Cultural References[]

  • Meanwhile . . . in Japan . . . Coffee Cups: Gaijin fans may call the ride "tea cup" due to the description of the ride from Actual Disney based on the tea party from Alice in Wonderland. However, tea was, and is, consumed in an entirely different receptacle. The linkypoo goes to a good discussion of the history of coffee . . . in Japan!

Trivia[]

  • "Bitch" or "Gloomer": WataMote Wiki will confess the amateur mistake of confusing ツ for シ, and initially thought Sachi said "that Gloomer," which is specific to Tomoko since no one would describe Asuka as a "Gloomer." From The Credit Where Credit is Due Department, editor HokageUzumaki pointed out the mistake when discussing Fan™ disagreement over whether Sachi refers to Tomoko or Asuka. It appears that she notices Tomoko and Tomoki staring at one another. In Sachi's estimation, Tomoko more fits a "that one" or even "bitch," than Asuka. A subsequent chapter may clarify if Sachi asks if he kissed Asuka specifically.

Memorable Moments[]

  • "Your Kiss is On My Lips!": Leave aside Tomoki not wanting to be kissed by Sayaka, he appears mortified that it happened in public. Sachi remonstrates him for obsessing over what is a minor event. Granted, she thinks he has [CENSORED – Ed.] a bevy of WataGirls, so a simple kiss seems minor to her.
  • "But Lester! She's Your Sister!": does Tomoki actually think a kiss with a sister when they were little children is somehow equivalent? He needs to get out more. WataMote Wiki blames the soccer.
  • "Mrs. M, if We were the Last Three Humans on Earth, I Would be Trying to Start a Family with Baldrick": Apparently, Tomoki did not enjoy his First Kiss. However, he did seem to prefer it over kissing his sister, so there is that.
  • "Irides! Sachi has Them!": WataMote Wiki will leave it to Those with More Free Time to track how Sachi acquiring a face matches her behavior. Whenv she was honest with herself as Wee Lass, she did not have eyes. Obviously, her first appearance of eyes – "black eyes . . . like a doll's eyes" – is significant. This begs the question as to what the appearance of irides means. Is she more honest? More of a character? Let the speculation flow!

  1. Ahaha (アハハ)
  2. Or perhaps one is a short-haired girl. WataMote Wiki does not judge.
  3. Which for ease, WataMote Wiki will dub his "GHOST face." Because everything needs a "GHOST." Like "GHOST pirates!" You have to have GHOST pirates, Lad 'n Lassies! Arg!
  4. Citation Needed – Ed.
  5. The back of their t-shirts read: "3 - 4" over the initials "HSJ," with "Haramaku Studios Japan" underneath in English.
  6. In the katakana: クロキ
  7. Emiri rises in WataMote Wiki's estimation with this probably unintentional but apt Jaws reference.
  8. Using Emiri's rendering: キモくない. The kunai (くない) converts the い-adjective (キモい!キモい!) into a negative.
  9. She refers to Tomoki with 彼氏 (kareshi).
  10. くくく (kukuku)
  11. She adds the pluralizing "tachi" (達) to her nickname.
  12. WataMote Wiki insists there should a "pop" or "zeem"-type sound effect when this happens.
  13. Kudos to the Fanilators: いやいつまで落ち込んでんのよ (iya itsu made ochikonden no yo ) with 落ち込む meaning to feel depressed.
  14. Translation Note: Sachi twice repeats the phrase Tomoki uses to start his reply: 別に (betsu ni). This is a very common phrase to diminish something, often translated as "not particularly."
  15. ファーストキス (fāsuto kisu)
  16. まだマシ (mada masu): with マシ conveying not just "better" but "less objectionable."
  17. Emiri is next to Kayo, but is cut in-half by the panel. No evidence that she says, "キモい!キモい!"
  18. One of the many points that should make the Noble Reader wonder why Sachi has not made the connection.
  19. Translation Note: for completeness, Asuka refers to him as "Tomo-chan's younger brother-kun."
  20. Using the ubiquitous ねぇ. The diminutive ぇ suggests a falling off of the extended "e" vowel.
  21. Translation Note: Meanwhile . . . in Japan . . . the language does not use pronouns, but the context appears to make it clear. Sachi says, もしかしてさ昔キスしたって (moshikashitesa mukashi kisu shitatte). Hyper-Literally: "Perhaps in the past kissed you meant." She then adds, "Not that bitch . . ?": まさかアイツ(masaka aitsu). まさか is "No way!" and "unexpected," while the emphasized in the katakana "aitsu (アイツ)" "that person over there," which is an insulting term that many WataGirls use, including Sachi, often in the context of "that bitch." Even Sachi probably did not mean to convey "bitch," to Tomoki.
