No Matter How I Look at It, It’s You Guys' Fault I’m Not Popular!
Synopsis[]
This chapter is a multi-part chapter that follows directly from Chapter 223. The cover depicts Tomoko standing before the bench listening to an announcement. Hina sits on the bench and looks up in the same direction. With an empty space between then, Tomoki sits, probably with his I'm in PAIN! Face, but he is obscured by the announcement's speech bubble. Masaki appears to stand looking down at him seriously.
The announcement calls to everyone formally thanking them for their hard word and identifies itself as the Cultural Festival Executive Committee. It concludes that from 3 P.M. the "day and night festival" will be held in the gym. With a view of the roof of the gym, the announcement continues to formally ask that students remaining on campus to please go to the gym.
In the gym from the perspective of the stage, Mitsuki Wakui stands next to a mascot familiar to fans of both the manga and anime, The address notes that this years Firefly Festival (蛍輝祭・keikisai) middle night festival[1] has begun, and introduces them as the chairwoman and the Haramaku mascot (マスコット・masukotto). Switching to the perspective of the audience, the next panel depicts Mitsuki-chan announcing that this is brought by "Makuzu-kun."

In the audience, Tomoko sits between Asuka and Hina. Tomoko remarks, "that costumed character (着ぐるみ・kigurumi)." With concern, Hina looks at her and asks, "what about that?" Chibi Tomoko observes over Hina, and Yuri sitting next to Hina, with Mako behind and between them, that during her first year when she was alone, he gave her a balloon and hugged[2] her. Concerned Chibi Asuka asks, "Wasn't he a boy? Were you okay?" Concerned Hina emits, "Expression," while Yuri smiles slyly, giggles, and imagines Tomoko laying in bed with the mascot as she holds the balloon.

Shown: Yuri Smiles and Laughs!
Also Shown: Masaki is Surprised!
Mitsuki-chan continues to explain that since the festival will be filmed and uploaded on their YouTube,[3] they should kindly refrain from recording. She then turns to introduce the first group, which consist of three Anonymous Idol-Chans: "The second-year girls idol group CM[4] please!" In the next panel, the trio prance and sing. Hina crosses her arms and somewhat smugly suggests that their singing is shaky because they are dancing: "Because the abdominal method's more stable, right?" Tomoko and Yuri regard her critique with silence. The next panel depicts to anonymous boys at a microphone. There is laughter from the audience. The next panel clarifies that Mako sits behind Yuri, with Masaki next to her and behind Hina, with Hikari then Kotomi next to Masaki. Yuri smiles and emits a laugh which surprises Masaki. With her Perpetual Smile, Mako wonders, "Yuri . . . that kind of fake laugh and Nesumi Mouse's kind of laugh. . . ." For her part, Kotomi inwardly complains that If the punch lines were a little better, she would be able to watch this student comedy act.
The following panel depicts the stage with various anonymous musicians assembling a drum set around the mascot. Hikari, with her horn, stands watching. The next depicts the mascot furiously playing.[5] In the audience, Masaki smiles pleasantly, and Mako regards her. Yuri looks concerned as she thinks that she feels like there is a character like that. Hina smiles as she watched, but Tomoko, "That's it, the contents are different." For her part, Kotomi inwardly wonders, "you're [Mascot] doing it?"
Music emerging from the gym roof marks the passage of time. As the students file out, Tomoko turns to Yuri and Hina and remarks that at the time of her first-year Cultural Festival, though she does not remember much about it, she did a lot of stuff like this. Yuri turns to her and sharply adds that "Because Nemoto-san left you out of her group and you were alone, you don't remember much? When Mako betrayed me and left me alone my mind went blank." Tomoko emits a tolerant "A-," while Chibi Hina grimaces and Chibi Mako loses her Perpetual Smile and looks concerned. Yuri then remarks to Tomoko that since they are now together at the Cultural Festival, they will remember. Mako grins a bit and thinks that Yuri is saying nice things.
Behind them, Asuka walks with Kaho. Asuka notes that she was not in the classroom and asks her where she went. Kaho replies that she had to show her face in the club a bit. Yet behind them, The Walking Pit of Unfathomable Darkness Kiko follows. She thinks, "This person I was most curious about. . . . Finally got her away from onēchan. Now's the time to talk. . . !" She politely asks if it is okay to bother her; Asuka pleasantly asks if she is talking to her, and Kiko compliments her performance in the film. Asuka thanks her, and Kiko asks if it is okay for them to talk a bit. Kaho politely indicates that she will go on ahead.

Shown: "Foliage at the Entrance to a Road to a Christening" . . . probably. . . .
There is a view of the field outside. The two stand together, and Kiko remarks that while the reaction to the movie was negative, a student film to attempt an original comedy requires courage and recklessness. She then adds that the movie was great for her since she could sense the life of the director in her film. She then complements "senpai" for her performance: "I felt a certain respect for your role." Asuka cutely thanks her. Asuka looks back at her and tells her that she thinks the director would be happy if she told her that. Kiko formally apologizes for her one-sided conversation. As a chibi she observes Asuka as Asuka touches her hair. She thinks, "Seriously, why is this person and Onēchan friends? Her appearance and mood are completely different from Onēchan." Continuing her musing, Kiko pictures Emiri's face with "that person (あの人・ano hito)" over it. She thinks that "that person" has similar feelings about "onēchan" as she does,[6] but she does not know why "this person" likes her. As she continues to play with her hair, she remarks, "Maybe you know Tomo-chan?"
Kiko asks her why she thinks that. Asuka replies that she thought Kiko was worried about "Tomo-chan," but could not talk to her so she talked to her instead. Kiko claims that she is wrong, and she only wants to know what "onēchan's friends" are like. "'Onēchan?" Asuka asks as she continues to play with her hair, "you're Tomo-chan's little sister?" "Just her cousin," Kiko corrects. Looking down, Kiko continues, ". . . what did Onēchan say about me?" Asuka clasps her hands behind her back, smiles brightly, and asks, "You worried?" Kiko maintains her smile as she reacts. Not facing Asuka, she asks, "Why is Senpai and friends with Onēchan?" Asuka ask why she asks, then Kiko suggests, "Maybe Senpai does not know much about Ōnēchan, right?"[7] Kiko continues that she does not think she is the person "Senpai" thinks she is. Beaming. Asuka asks, "You know a Tomo-chan I don't know?" "I know a lot!" Kiko insists. She then reels off a list of Tomoko's sins:[8] "Liar; Showoff; Vulgar; Coward; "I've even seen her perform a dogeza in a humiliating way."
"She dyed her pubic hair[9] silver color, right." Asuka calmly interrupts.
"YES?" a shocked Kiko asks as she looks at Asuka. Asuka slightly covers her grin as she rhetorically asks, "you didn't know?" Kiko looks away and rhetorically asks, "What's that? You're absolutely an idiot, Onēchan." "But you love that kind of onēchan don't you, right?" Asuka replies. "I'm the same." Kiko protests that she was not talking about herself. Asuka starts to say, "I," but then pauses to indicate that she does not know how to address Kiko. Kiko gives her her name, and Asuka continues, "I want to talk about Kiko-chan." Kiko replies that she likes things about "Onēchan," because "she's fun to watch." Asuka corrects her, "No, not like that, really you want to be spoiled by your Onēchan, right?" With a view of their legs, Kiko asks her what she is talking about. While Asuka claims she does not know, she suggests that because Kiko does not know "Tomo-chan" she came to her high school.

Shown: Kiko Silently Smiling and Regarding Asuka
Beaming in animesque light, Asuka adds that because she wants to know everything about "Onēchan," she would say she knows her best.[10] Kiko silently smiles and regards Asuka, then she asks if that seems childish to her. Asuka demurs and explains that it is because she has had similar feelings. With a focus on her face, Asuka explains that she thought she was the one who cared most about Tomoko, so she could think about her and act accordingly: "Because Kiko- chan and everyone else probably thinks the same." She then declares that she decided to stop thinking about such things and spoil[11] "Tomo-chan." "Spoil Onēchan?" Kiko asks, "that's disgusting for a classmate, isn't it?"
"It is, right!" Asuka beams.
Asuka then suggests that she hopes "Kiko-chan" is not afraid of letting "Tomo-chan" spoil her. "When did I say I was scared," Kiko asks. Asuka responds that she is a big sister to "Tomo-chan" as much as she is to "Kiko-chan."[12] Both are stopped by their phones bleeping with a text.[13] Kiko's has a speech bubble with a Chibi Shizuku messaging, "H R finished!"[14] Asuka's has a Concerned Chibi Hina asking "where?"[15]
In a scene worthy of the sophisticate anime or Sergio Leon film,[16] both are bathed in sunlight. Asuka walks to the foregrown still playing with her hair as she smiles. Kiko stands in the background watching her.
As she smiles.

- "The hug that changed the world": during the first year’s school festival in Chapter 21, when Tomoko was all alone, Megumi approached her while wearing a dog costume, gave her a hug. balloon and hugged her. Later, after graduation and once told goodbye to her in Chapter 115.5, Tomoko just realized it was Megumi that person in costume who embraced her, a fact that Tomoko still laments. And even when she had to chance to talk with Megumi about that regard in Chapter 182, Tomoko just changed of subject.
- "You leaving her out is unforgivable": in Chapter 213-3, when Tomoko brought the subject of how she just remembered the school festival in first year, Yuri turned conversation to condemn Hina for leaving Tomoko out. In this chapter, Yuri again nails the accusation to Hina.
- "A girl less, there's still another": when Kiko went to visit Tomoko during Golden Week in Chapter 141, she found the photos of this one with her friends in Nezumuland, and she spotted two girls as her targets. Later during Haramaku's school festival in Chapter 220-3, Kiko met Emiri and mentioned she wasn't so interested in that girl, being thus discarded as one of candidates. Now, and once with the chance of interacting with her alone, it's revealed Asuka is one of the girls, there's another left.
- "I've seen her bow her head down in shame": by the time of her summer break visit in Chapter 15, after a misunderstanding caused by Tomoko which involved Kosaka, and that ended up with Kiko facing that guy, Tomoko had no other choice but do dogeza to him, which to her misfortune, Kiko witnessed, a key moment that shattered the image that Kiko had of Tomoko.
- "There's no way those two are friends": the unbelief about Asuka being friends with Tomoko is not a new matter. It was seen in Chapter 140, during the tour along Aogaku University, after seeing Asuka with Tomoko, Kayo reacted surprised about this fact; also, in the same chapter, when the four of Emoji gang were about to leave, Miyazaki commented to Emiri how she didn't think Asuka were friends with Tomoko. Furthermore, in Chapter 155, when riding together in the same train, Fūka thought how the combination of Tomoko with Asuka was weird.
- "I want you to spoil me, onee-chan": in Chapter 175-2, after a walk together in the beachside, where Asuka groped Tomoko's breasts and got knocked because of it, this one got Tomoko to cushion her one her tighs and spoil her.
- "A cow at first hand": when Asuka checks the LINE that Hina sent her, it's seen how it hangs from her phone the cow keychain that Tomoko gifter her in Chapter 130
- "Mojyomon Gold and Silver": Asuka simply responds to Kiko pointing out all the embarassing things Tomoko did with "She dyed her lower hair silver too.", referring to Chapter 170.
- Troll Mastress Asuka-Chan: Asuka also disturbs Fūka Chapter 160 with a similar reference that, in no way, has an impact on Fūka-chan, goodness no . . . no . . . yes.

Trivia[]
- Hair Apparent: Asuka often touches her face or plays with her hair when something uncomfortable happens. The hair on her head. WataMote Wiki is not mad that you assumed a different location, just . . . disappointed.
Memorable Moments[]
- "When the Lady Smiles!": Yuri seems more willing to giggle and smile. She is also demonstrating an affinity for Tomoko's sexual humor. Emiri would declare that Tomoko's キモい has spread upon Yuri [Right. Stop that. – Ed.]
- "I can see through your acting": with no effort, Asuka was able to deduce that the reason Kiko approached her to talk alone was so that she could gather information about Tomoko. And once put clear that she was her cousin, when Kiko tried to expose Tomoko's bad points, Asuka easily schocked her by exposing another bad point of her. Also, in the process, Asuka turned the tables against Kiko and made her to realize the reason for which she wanted to know everything about Tomoko was so that she could say she knows her the best.
- "Warts and all": When Kiko starts rambling about all the dumb things Tomoko did towards Asuka, she simply responds with the Silver Pubes incident to show that she accepts Tomoko for who she is.

- ↑ 抱かれた (dakareta): which can be a euphemism for sex.
- ↑ [CENSORED – Ed] in the Japanese Original.
- ↑ With tiny furigana indicating it is "centimeter."
- ↑ Though Pert and Collins would do it better. . . .
- ↑ Not quite, Kii-chan!
- ↑ Translation Note: to be fair to the Fanilators, the speech bubble appears to point to Asuka, but it also points towards Kiko, who is responding to Asuka's question. Her next remark follows from this directly. The response is: 多分先輩はお姉ちゃんのことあまり知らないですよね?(Tabun Senpai wa Onēchan no koto amari shiranaidesuyo ne?). Asuka would not refer to herself as a "senpai," and she certainly would not address Kiko as one, so it cannot be translated as "you."
- ↑ And may Oyashiro-Sama have mercy on her soul!
- ↑ "Hair down/over there," is the euphemism.
- ↑ Translation Note: This could go either way. Asuka could use "お姉ちゃん” to match Kiko's use. Is she saying she or Kiko wants to know more about Tomoko so she or Kiko can say she knows Tomoko the best? Probably both. Asuka uses again 自分 (jibun) or "myself" but she is probably including Kiko in the description. Rather than just accuse Kiko of trying to appear like she knows more about Tomoko than anyone else, Asuka places it on herself but uses Kiko's nickname for Tomoko rather than her own which she used just previously.
- ↑ 甘える (amaeru): "to be spoiled," also to dependent upon another.
- ↑ Probably. . . . Translation Note: And WataMote Wiki reserves the right to change the translation and pretend it is correct, this is a difficult one. Asuka says: 智ちゃんにとってもきこちゃんにとってもお姉ちゃんなんだから (Tomo-chan ni tottemo Kiko-chan ni totemo onēchan nanda kara). Hyperliterally: "To Tomo-chan tremendously to Kiko-chan tremendously, Big Sister assuredly is because." So where are the pronouns? Who is the "Big Sister?" It seems to WataMote Wiki that Asuka is implying that just as she can be a "big sister" to Tomoko, she can be one to Kiko. This sort of fits Asuka's way of diffusing a conflict: "let Tomoko spoil you, and I might spoil you." WataMote Wiki is not angry that your Stygian minds wander'd to ménage à trois, just . . . not surprised. Though Asuka is happy to use "I" (私) this does not explain the "greatly to Tomoko" "greatly to Irritating Bitch" . . . er . . . "to Kiko" construction Asuka uses.
- ↑ Asuka's bleeps, "rain (ライン)" whilst Kiko's bleeps, "piron (ピロン). Because WataMote Wiki cares.
- ↑ H R おわってよ(owatteyo)
- ↑ どこ (doko)?
- ↑ You are welcome.
