Synopsis

Tomoko laughs to herself reading a manga in a convenience store and notices a salesclerk looking at her. She decides to leave, still laughing at a profane scene in the manga, but she discovers it is starting to rain. She takes shelter under a bus stop but is soon joined by two guys: the unnamed Kosaka and his friend. Tomoko becomes nervous but still tries to make conversation when the boys greet her. Her first attempt is an obvious observation about how it is raining. One of the guys politely agrees. Tomoko then notices she is sweating profusely. Her second attempt is to make a funny basketball manga reference to her sweat, but she barely gets a response as neither of the guys even know she was trying to talk to them.

Tomoko then realizes she is beginning to cry. She tries to make an excuse about having to take a dump to prevent them from seeing her cry. She is further embarrassed as they think she is being serious. After leaving the bathroom, Tomoko finds the bus stop empty and thinks they abandoned her. However, the two guys had actually gone to the convenience store to buy an umbrella for her. When they return, Tomoko is asleep and they decide to leave the umbrella next to her. Upon waking up, Tomoko notices the umbrella and uses it unaware that it was left by them. Walking home, she wishes that for once a boy would treat her kindly. The narration notes that it would be nice if she for once "noticed the unseen kindness."
