Synopsis

This "Special Chapter" (特別編) is a flashback to when the first-year opening ceremony for the WataGirls™. In the auditorium, the Principal congratulates the new students on their enrollment. While he continues to hope that they will make the most of their next three years, the panel focuses on the sitting collection of Mako next to Yuri, with a Faceless Sachi and Koharu sitting behind them respectively. Mako smiles as she looks towards Yuri. She picks what appears to be a cherry blossom petal from Yuri's left shoulder as she explains something is there. Yuri stammers a thank you. Meanwhile, with her face, Sachi looks at Koharu next to her and muses, "At first glance, this one doesn't look gloomy." She figures that since their names are similar, they will be next to one another, so they might as well be friends.

Outside amidst the falling cherry blossom petals, Koharu brightly addresses Mako that they have not talked much. Mako cheerfully replies "Tamura-san" and she went to the same school. Yuri stares at Mako silently whilst Faceless Sachi regards Koharu with a hint of a smile. "Well, I guess both their faces gets a passing mark," she muses.

Embarrassed Chibi Yuri announces that she will go to the toilet. Concerned Chibi Mako declares that they will go together. Happy Chibi Koharu declares she will as well, and Faceless-but-Happy Chibi Sachi adds "OK." Chibi Yuri reacts to this suspiciously. She continues her suspicious silence as she enters the Throne Room. Outside the Regal Chamber, Faceless Sachi and Mako laugh as Koharu happily chats. Upon the Throne of Contemplation, Yuri, well, contemplates that it is the same as it was in middle school, and she does not know why girls go together to the toilet or other places: "it's hard to relax."

The view changes to outside the Regal Chamber. As Mako chats with Koharu and Sachi, Tomoko nervously passes between them and the Regal Chambers, and inside, Yuri insists to herself that that does not mean she will spend all her time by herself.

Once again outside, Koharu asks "Makocchi" which she likes better, dogs or cats. Mako responds probably dogs, and Koharu bubbles quick agreement then adds that she saw a toy poodle (トイプードル・toipūdoru) on television and wants one. With her face, Sachi happily adds that cats are cuter and dogs bark and bite. Inwardly, she grouses about the boring conversation when they just became friends. "Could you at least talk about what you hate than what you like?"

Yuri reacts by staring with a startled surprise best described in the Gallery with an image of a cat behind her.

Mako turns to her and asks, ". . . as for you cats?" Yuri inwardly screams, "She got it!! I didn't say it!!"

They walk past anonymously-drawn boys playing cards. Sachi is faceless but has her small smile. After they pass, Koharu stops and starts mimicking someone playing the card game: "My turn! I release this card to the graveyard and summon something!" Faced Sachi laughs. Placing her hand on Koharu's back, Sachi compliments her impersonation: "Koharu-chan's best!" Koharu giggles in approval while behind her Mako happily smiles. Yuri, however, stares in silence. Still happy, Mako notes that in middle school she also played. Smug-Faced Chibi Sachi notes that that was when she was a child and to be playing that in a high school classroom is ridiculous.

Yuri and Mako lean on the balcony wall outside of the classroom. Looking ahead, Yuri frankly remarks, "I hate that sort of girl's low-level impersonation. It's not as funny as high school girls on Tik Tok." With some concern, Mako inwardly marvels that Yuri does not like badmouthing, yet she is badmouthing.

Koharu brings up the example of the loner from their class "Murayama": "Isn't he disgusting?" Yuri hesitatingly remarks that she does not find him gross as Faced Sachi responds, "E – possibly not that gross?"

Enraged Chibi Koharu-Chan!!

Faceless-but-Smiling Chibi Sachi playfully suggests that he looks "normal and pleasant." Enraged Chibi Koharu shrieks back that he is a fat otaku. Faceless-but-Smiling Chibi Sachi replies that he does not look like an otaku to her. Enraged Chibi Koharu insists, "He looks like an otaku!! I saw him playing the naked woman game on his smartphone." Faceless-but-Smiling Chibi Sachi replies that he looks so clean. Normal, Koharu screams that that is not true and he stinks. With her face and smiling, Sachi thinks that she loves that Koharu acts the way she thinks she will. Behind her, Yuri thinks, "The relationship between these two is disgusting, but. . . ."

The scene shifts to the inside of a classroom. Koharu happily chats with an anonymous girl in the foreground. Behind her, Faceless Sachi does the same with two other anonymous girls. The next panel depicts Mako pleasantly observing them while Yuri watches with concern.

The scene then moved to a view of their legs as they walk down a road. Koharu remarks that she talked to a number of people in class but everyone seems weird. Sachi agrees and suggests that it is more interesting for the four of them to talk. With a view of their faces, Koharu remarks, "It's been a month since the entrance ceremony, but somehow it seems like this will continue forever." Faced Sachi pleasantly teases, "After saying that, Koharu-chan's going to get a boyfriend." Mako beams, but Yuri looks on suspiciously.

Very brightly, Koharu cutely denies she will since it is more fun with girls. Inwardly, she squeals, "That's right! 'Cause I'm the cutest of us!!" With a normal smiling face for which we have a Gallery, Sachi replies that she is the most suspicious of people who say that. Inwardly, Sachi concludes that "Koharu-chan" is funny but more upbeat than the other two, then confesses that she wants to play with her and be a bad helper. As Mako brightly smiles, she thinks that if they are not involved in club activities, girls tend to drift apart if they change classes.

Yuri quietly thinks that each word seems so frivolous it is easy to feel at peace, but if she only talks to Mako from after tomorrow, it will be fine.

Trivia

• Alphabetical Order: apparently the students sit in alphabetical order, which puts "Mima" next to "Minami" and "Tanaka" next to "Tamura." That would be odd in English since "Mima" comes before "Minami," but "Tamura" comes before "Tanaka." In Japanese syllabaries, the kana for the "n" consonant-vowel pairs come before the "m" ones. So why is Mima before Minami? WataMote Wiki will leave it to Readership with Too Much Free Time to figure that out and then calculate what seats Masaki Yoshida and Asuka Katō are sitting in.
• Numerical Order: this appears in order of publication. It is released as the "Special Chapter 15" in the Japanese Original Volume 23.

Memorable Moments

• "Girls Just Wanna have Fun!": WataMote Wiki resisted joking about Koharu's reply to Sachi. This more reveals her innocence in that she appears to have no interest in boys and enjoys the company of girls. Not . . . that there is anything wrong with it.
• Sachi's F[CENSORED – Ed.]ck Doll: Sachi confesses to herself that she wants to fu . . . er . . . toy with Koharu for her own amusement. As from the Referbacks, it appears her relationship is more complex than she likes to admit: she thinks and intends to just use Koharu, but she also wants her around.
