Synopsis[]

Chapter 198 Extra (喪198おまけ)[]

Hina, Yuri, and Itō walk together during Yū's school's cultural festival. Looking at her guide as she walks, Hina announces that it says they have a manga and anime research club. She suggests they check it out for a bit. Two panels take them to "Lecture Hall 2," which contains a "Doodle[1] Corner." Yuri and Itō look at the caricatures while behind them Yuri looks ahead with a slight smile. The next panel shows her shocked, with the following panel showing an anonymous girl drawing behind a sign that reads "Manga Style Caricatures." Behind her are two girls[2] previously seen in the special chapter devoted to her middle school years: one with glasses and one with a ponytail.

Hina-Ikuyama-Ikeda v21Omake

She recalls herself as a middle-school student with the two of them laughing. She recalls their names – Yamaguchi (山口) and Kamata (鎌田) – and concludes that this is their high school. As a chibi over the two girls talking, Hina muses that she did not have a good image of them, but she does think it is kind of nice that they have not changed since then. As she muses, the two look in her direction then turn back to one another. Curious Chibi Hina notes that they looked her way but asks herself if they did not notice it was her.

With a view of her from behind, Hina suspects that they did not since it has been three years and her appearance has greatly changed. With a view of her face with her eyes obscured by her bangs, she wonders if she revealed herself to them and told them that they have not changed would they find her malicious and talk behind her back again.

Yuri has sat before the anonymous girl with Hikari standing behind Yuri. The girl begins to sketch the outline of Yuri's head. Yuri turns back to Hina and asks, "why me?" Beaming, Hina explains that Hikari just rode the rollercoaster. When Yuri asks about her, Hina replies that she will also get drawn after Yuri. The anonymous girl turns towards Hina's ex-friend with the ponytail and asks "senpai" if she can help her out a little. Sweating, the girl tries to demure by claiming that the other knows she is bad at this. The girl insists that she has not done the Club Journal much either, so she should at least do this. The girl with the ponytail inwardly curses "this bitch"[3] for thinking she is so important because she can draw. The other ex-friend, similarly sweating, announces that she is going to the toilet.

The girl with the ponytail sits before Hina, holds her pad close to herself, and draws while staring into the pad. Hina dutifully sits and thinks that while she did not mean to get involved, the girl is bound to recognize her, but then she suspects that her ex-friend has since will not look her in the eye.

Shōjō Yuri V21 Omake

Shown: 少女ゆりちゃん!!!

Hands hold a sketch of Yuri staring out with wide eyes. The next panel reveals it is Hina holding the picture while beaming as she declares that it is refreshing to see "Tamura-san's Shōjō Manga Style." Yuri stares at the picture she is holding with a quizzical expression and declares that the artist "kinda sucks, right?"

The picture consists of Hina with black hair and twin tales as she wore in middle school. Yuri continues that she drew her with black hair, so it is pretty much a different person.

Hina insists that she got it correct.

Afterward (あとがき・atogaki) ①[]

Not Right Shin V21 Omake

Not Shown: An Injured Right Shin

The Author part of Nico Tanigawa sits at a desk with numerous books scribbling. Behind him, with a smile, the Artist walks toward the reader. The narration reads: "A Certain August Day at Work." The Artist's left foot appears to cross in front of her right shin causing her to fall on her left shin and knee with the sound of "koki (コキ)."

The Artist sits in obvious pain holding her right knee. Without looking back, the Author asks her what she could have stumbled over. She responds that it may be broken. Still without looking back, the Author helpfully suggests she could not break it from that.

The next day reveals the Artist's lower right leg is markedly swollen. The narration admits that it was broken.

Afterward (あとがき・atogaki) ②[]

The Author continues work at his desk whilst the Artist walks with crutches. The narration reads "A Month after the Fracture." The Author thinks to himself that it was just a crack so she should be able to walk fine. He inwardly notes that she rode a bicycle to work, and he wonders why she is only using crutches here. On the television, a baseball announcer notes that "Martin (マーティン・mātin)" returns to play merely two weeks after receiving a fracture on the 19th. As both look back from their respective desks towards the television, the announcer screams "Full swing!!" then "AAH! That leg has to hurt!"

Out loud, the Author observes that Martin was in matches, "two weeks after that, though. . . ."

The Artist looks back at him.

She then severely asks, "What was that?"

Characters[]

In order of appearance:

Referbacks[]

  • "A Festivus for the Rest of Us!": Work with WataMote Wiki here. Yū's school Cultural Festival takes place in the two-part Chapter 198.
  • "You Can Never Go Home Again": the Volume 15 Special Edition contains the chapter that depicts the sleeping Hina recalling her years in middle school. It explains her falling out with her two otaku friends.
  • "A Girl has a Wrong Name!": The original printing erroneously changes the names of Yamaguchi (山口) and Kamata (鎌田) to Ikuyama and Ikeda. This will be corrected in subsequent printings.

Trivia[]

  • "It's Baseball, Hina!": A possible reason for the error in this chapter is that the incorrect name for one of Hina's ex-friends, Ikeda, is the same as Chiba Lotte Marines infielder Raito Ikeda, while the other, Ikuyama, is the same as the former Lotte outfielder and second basemen Hiroto Ikuyama. Finally, "Martin" appears to be Leonys Martín.

Memorable Moments[]

  • Hina Recognized

Quotes[]

  • "If I were to tell those two my name and say ;You haven't changed one bit,' I wonder if they'll think I'm being malicious and talk behind my back again?" – Hina about Kamata and Yamaguchi
  • "I didn't mean to get involved, but . . . she's bound to recognize me now . . . or rather, she has totally recognized me . . . She's not looking me in the eye at all!" – Hina about Kamata (?)
  • "Nemoto-san, the girl who drew you sucks, huh. . . . She drew you with black hair, so it's pretty much an entirely different person, isn't it?" – Yuri
    • "No, she got it correct." – Hina

References[]

  1. らくガキ (rakugaki): "graffiti" with the mixture of hiragana and katakana probably for effect.
  2. In this and in the previous chapter, Hina does not identify which girl is which, and since the girl closest to her in the previous panel, and who eventually draws her, is the one further away in reminiscence, there is no clear way to determine this. WataMote Wiki will assume that Hina is thinking the first is the girl she faces in her reminiscence and will send a Strongly-Worded Letter to Square Enix. By airmail!
  3. こいつ (koitsu).
